Final Report – Industrial Portrait
1- We changed : the flash is the main, using the available light and another flash as fill.
2- We worked with a 50 mm for the portrait, it gave nice blur for the background but kept the proportions
3- Aperture were at 2.8-3.5. We make sure the machine and the subject is on focus
4- Speed : 1/125 of a second
5- We had enough avail. Light but it was too flat.
6- We had enough strobes
7- Not too much light but I think the main light is a little bit too hard for the final result
8- White balance and contrast, and cleaning the machine because it was really dirty and we couldn’t clean it more.
9- Color balance : green gels and grey card
10- Next time bring more green gels
I think the challenge in this assignment were the fact that we were not sure about how to deal with the light because we did not had a pre-light test. After all, we put the fill light bouncing on the ceiling because it was created hard shadows on the subject and on the machine. Using the ceiling was diffusing the light all over the machine. We tried the main light on the side, but found that the light were really flat. We installed the soft box maybe 5 feet’s away but in front of the machine; it create like a kick light and give us more of textures of the skin and hair of the subject and less flat light.
The gobo using the black curtains went really good. The polarizer filter was also a great idea, killing the big reflexions of the neons on the top of the machine.
